The recent shocking news about the arrest of 5 volunteer lawyers from the Kuala Lumpur Legal Aid Centre on 7 May 2009 at the Brickfields Police Station for their appearance there as volunteers to represent 14 individuals who had been previously arrested for congregrating in a candle lght vigil for a previously arrested Wong Chin Huat. The Kuantan Legal Aid Centre is now organising a dialogue session with these 5 volunteers i.e. on 18 July 2009 (Saturday) at 9.30 a.m. at our Kuantan Legal Aid Centre premises. Puan Siti Aminah Binti Ghazali has now been appointed as the Mediation Officer for civil suits in the Sessions Courts, Kuantan whilst Puan Ireane Isabelo will be the Mediation Officer for civil suits in the Magistrates Court, Kuantan. The Mediation Process will commence in the lower courts in Kuantan from 1 July 2009.

Based on discussions between Jabatan Agama Islam Pahang (JAIP) and the Kuantan Municipal Council recently, all talks on creating a new car park within the Syariah Court Kuantan precinct is now called off. The JAIP building will be renovated to incorporate the Syariah Court and all building works will commence in November 2009. Meanwhile, the Municipal Council is now looking at the traffic flow and the layout of car parking bays within the area to address the lack of parking bays issue.
